Case Details

Name: Tom Chambers

Age: 12 Years Old

Gender: Male

UID No: 8174

DOA: 13-7-2023

Case Introduction

People with Pityriasis alba have round or oval-shaped hypopigmented lesions over his/her skin which can spread to other skin parts as well. It commonly occurs in children aged 6-12 years but can persist in young adults too irrespective of gender. The exact reasons for the condition are unknown but it is considered a low grade form of Eczema or Atopic dermatitis

In our case Tom has a past medical history and a family history of Atopic dermatitis since childhood associated with nasal allergies and food intolerances, altogether we call it “Atopic March.” We have discussed it briefly previously but it’s more dangerous if not treated properly.

Ayurveda describes Pityriasis alba as mandala kushta, a kapha dominance condition which can be described as the elevation of snigdha guna in rasa dhatu.

Ayurveda explains Allergy March as a triad of Allergic rhinitis, Atopic dermatitis and Asthma which can be seen in people with weak and altered immune systems and the reason behind this condition is due to food intolerances. When the patient consumes something that his body considers as an allergen and starts producing inflammatory mediators to fight against the allergens which can cause a triad of conditions.

Chief Complaints

For 2 months a hypopigmented patch has been seen on his face and his fingers, he suffered from eczema especially around his perioral region and hands since childhood but not progressed now and bloating, and stomach pain are common. On further investigation, we get to know that he also suffers from periodic Hay fever and Asthma.

Final Diagnosis

Dr. Sahil Gupta upon deep investigation of his signs and symptoms, confirmed the final diagnosis as:-

  • Mandala kusta (Pityriasis Alba)
  • Aahar Asatmyata (Food intolerances)
  • Tamaka Shwasa (Asthma)
  • Vicharchika (Atopic dermatitis)
  • Vata kaphaj pratishyaya (Allergic rhinitis)

We were very happy to receive this message because it doesn’t matter the months of therapy, what matters is the amazing results and change that patients experience from our treatment.
