Introduction

Guggulu, commonly known as Indian bedellium is one of the most widely used herb in Ayurveda. The name Guggulu means that the plant is very useful and protectsthe body by curing many diseases. The word commiphora means bearer. The resin extracted from Guggulu have high medicinal value and is used to cure many diseases.

  • In Vata disorders (Vata vyadhi) – Guggulu taken along with milk is useful as a rejuvenating Medicine in Vata vyadhi. 
  • In Worm infestations (Krimi)  – The gum resin is taken, dried is powdered and taken internally along with honey at a dose of 5g daily. 
  • In skin diseases (Kushta)– The resinis taken along with urine orally. Drinking this for a period of 7 days can cure skin diseases. 
  • In Diabetes (Prameha)  – Decoction prepared with Guggulu and Amalaki can be used to control diabetes. 
  • In Fever (Jwara) – Decoction made with leaves of Guggulu and Tulsi taken internally at a dose of 60 ml. 
  • In Obesity (Sthoulya) – Daily intake of Guggulu is beneficial in case if obesity.
