Introduction

Ela, commonly known as Cardomom is one of the commonly cultivated herbs in South Indian states. It is used as ingredient for food preparation as well as a highly potent medicine. The name itself means that the plant is a stimulant. Ela is of two varieties. They are Elatteria Cardomomum and Ammomum subulatum.

  • In Cough (Kasa) – Powdered Ela is mixed with juice of Adhatoda vasica leaves and taken to cure cough.
