A significant development in Ayurvedic respiratory research has been marked by the publication of a clinical case study titled Ayurvedic Management of Chronic Sinusitis with Correlation to Vata Kaphaja Pratishaya in AYUSHDHARA, an international journal dedicated to research in AYUSH and allied systems. The study offers strong clinical evidence supporting the effectiveness of Ayurveda in managing chronic sinusitis.
The case describes a 51-year-old woman who suffered from long-standing nasal obstruction, recurrent frontal headaches, thick mucus discharge, snoring and post-nasal drip. Despite years of conventional treatments providing only temporary relief, her condition was successfully addressed using a structured Ayurvedic protocol. Based on classical diagnostic principles, the condition was identified as Kaphaja Pratishaya, involving Kapha and Vata imbalance and obstruction of Pranavaha Srotas.
An eight-week treatment plan was implemented, consisting of traditional Nasya Karma, internal herbal formulations, dietary regulation and pranayama. Remarkable improvement was observed within four weeks, including reduced congestion, improved nasal breathing, lighter mucus, better sleep quality and reduced snoring. By the end of eight weeks, the patient experienced complete remission with restored sense of smell, improved digestion and no recurrence even after exposure to cold or allergens.
The study highlights the strength of Ayurvedic management through Kapha and Vata balancing, purification of obstructed channels and Rasayana-based rejuvenation. It demonstrates how an integrative Ayurvedic approach can address the root cause of respiratory disorders and deliver sustainable long-term outcomes. This publication adds to the growing body of evidence supporting Ayurveda as a reliable and holistic medical system for chronic sinus and allergy-related conditions.
