Food Allergies

Food allergies also known as Aahar Asatmyata and Ayurveda specially mention the ill effects of food allergies on our body in its Granthams and scriptures. When a person consumes a food that produces allergic reactions in his/her body, then he may experience the symptoms of food allergies. Ayurveda explains the wrong food as Virudha aahar and it refers to the incompatibility of food which is not digested properly and doesn’t get expelled from the body. This can cause the accumulation of toxins which can be the reason for the inflammatory reactions.

Seafood Allergy

Seafood allergy is a type of food allergy and our patient is suffering from a prawn allergy and whenever she consumes prawns she used to get Angioedema and milf symptoms of anaphylaxis which is chronic and she always had a fear in her mind when she’s about to eat prawns but not now, after consulting IAFA. She’s completely treated now under the guidance of Dr. Sahil Gupta and now can have prawns without any worry of side effects or ill effects.

Perioral Dermatitis

Perioral dermatitis is a condition of atopic dermatitis and the patient can experience small inflammatory papules around the mouth, sometimes we can also observe scaly patches, inflammatory pustules and dry skin.

Here in this picture, you can see the condition of our patient and she used to get this every time she has something she’s allergic to. But now she doesn’t have dermatitis around her mouth and no itching and no scaly patches.

Allergic Rhinitis

Allergic Rhinitis is a condition which can be identified by the hypersensitivity reaction caused due to the interaction of the immune system with allergens such as virus aahar (incompatible food), dust, pollen, drugs etc. Allergic rhinitis can be interrelated with food allergies.

Causes of Food Allergies

Food allergies can be caused when a person consumes a completely harmless food but the immune system considers it as an allergen and starts releasing chemicals such as histamine that causes allergy symptoms on the body.

Anasuya is allergic to seafood especially prawns, whenever she has it, she has to experience severe symptoms like hives, rashes, bloating, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.

Causes of Allergic Rhinitis

The following are the most common causes of Allergic Rhinitis:-

  • Pollen
  • Dust mite
  • Mould spores
  • Pet dander
  • Insects
  • Grass
  • Weeds
  • Cockroaches

Chief Complaints of the Patient

  • Atopic Dermatitis: Skin rashes, hives and angioedema and mild symptoms of anaphylaxis can be seen after the intake of prawns, brinjal, and drumstick.
  • Gastrointestinal Issues: Vomiting and constipation after the intake of food that she’s allergic to.
  • Skin issues: Whitish discolouration of fingernails with cracks and sores.
  • Perioral dermatitis: Dryness in the perioral region and face.

Allergens: The patient is allergic to dust, mango, litchi, prawns, brinjal and drumsticks.

Upon physical diagnosis of the patient’s symptoms by Dr. Sahil Gupta and also considering the food allergens data given by the patient herself, Dr Gupta has confirmed her diagnosis as:-

  • Aahar Asatmyata (Prawn Allergy) Seafood Allergy
  • Vicharchika (Perioral Dermatitis)
