Fungi are microscopic micro-organisms characterized by a substance in their cell walls known as chitin. Different types of fungi cause different types of fungal infections. Some fungi, like mushrooms, are edible. Some types of fungi such as aspergillus can be extremely dangerous and lead to life-threatening diseases.

Cause of Fungal Infections – According to Ayurveda
According to Ayurveda, fungal infections are caused due to the depletion of ojas. Ojas is a substance that gives strength, improves immunity, responsible for vitality etc.
Depletion of ojas in the body is due to agnimandya (weak digestive fire). Weak digestive fire leads to the formation of ama (toxins) in the system. These toxins accumulate in deeper tissues of the skin area like rasa (plasma), mamsa (muscles) and lasika (lymph). As a result, there is contamination of deeper tissues and aggravation of the doshas within the body. The accumulated toxins weaken all the three doshas in the body i.e. Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
