Ayurvedic Reference of Nasal Allergy

Ayurvedic Reference of Nasal Allergy

Reference: Nasaroga Vijnaneeya Adhyaya, Uttarasthana, Astang Hridya, Indian Materia Medica of Acharya Vagbhata, Shlok No. 14-15.

Meaning: In Ayurveda, this condition has been explained as Bhrshakshava by Acharya Vagbhata. Bhrshakshava is correlated to Nasal Allergies. The external causes of nasal allergies include allergens as well as strong odour, sun rays, insertion of thread and grass into nose and when the cartilage of the nose gets scratched, it leads to the vitiation of Vata dosha. The vitiated Vata dosha then gets blocked by Kapha dosha at Shringatakamarma (vital point between the blood vessels that supply nose, ears, eyes and tongue). Thus, the normal movement of Vata gets hampered and it retrogresses and causes severe sneezing.
